Drawers: The Storage Solution That Lets You See Everything You Own

The fundamental advantage of a drawer over a cupboard shelf is visibility. Bathroom vanity drawers keep toiletries, grooming tools, and skincare organised and accessible. Internal dividers prevent the jumbled mess that an undivided drawer quickly becomes when small items (cotton buds, hair ties, razor heads) mix together into an undifferentiated pile. Shallow top drawers for frequently used items and deeper lower drawers for bottles and larger products is the layout that works best in practice.

Under-bed drawers exploit the wasted space beneath beds that lack built-in storage. Rolling drawers on castors or wheeled platforms slide in and out easily and hold seasonal clothing, spare bedding, shoes, and the general overflow that bedrooms accumulate. They're the cheapest way to add significant storage to a bedroom without buying new furniture — a pair of under-bed drawers costs a fraction of a new chest and provides comparable capacity.

Drawer Safety for Children

Tall chests of drawers pose a genuine tipping hazard for young children who pull open lower drawers and climb on them. Anti-tip brackets (L-shaped metal brackets that secure the chest to the wall) are inexpensive, easy to install, and prevent the furniture toppling forward — a risk that causes serious injuries every year. Any chest of drawers in a home with children under five should be wall-anchored. Full stop. The bracket is invisible behind the furniture and takes ten minutes to install.
