There are exceptions — if your hair has warm undertones, a warm brow product makes sense — but when in doubt, err on the cooler side. It's the more universally flattering direction.

The rule of thumb: hold a pencil vertically against the side of your nose — that's where the brow should start. Angle it from the nostril through the centre of the iris — that's the arch. Angle it from the nostril to the outer corner of the eye — that's where the tail should end.
